Invisalign^® allows for practically invisible orthodontics. Invisalign^® straightens your teeth without wires and brackets, using a series of clear, customised, removable appliances called aligners.

It’s virtually undetectable, which means hardly anyone will know that you’re straightening your teeth and it can eliminate the self-consciousness and anxiety some patients feel when wearing traditional braces.

How does the system work?

The initial stage following consultation involves taking impressions of the teeth or a computer scan to use 3D CAD/CAM technology to take measurements of your mouth.

The dental laboratory will create a series of customised aligners which gradually move the position of your teeth over an extended period.

Each set of aligners is worn for around 1-2 weeks for 20-22 hours per day before switching to the next aligner in the series. The progress of the teeth will be monitored by the Precision Smiles team every 8-12 weeks.

Once treatment is complete, you will be provided with retainers to wear, to help ensure your teeth don’t gradually shift back out of place.

How comfortable are the aligners?

As with any orthodontic system, you may experience some minor discomfort, often described as pressure, when you change aligners. This is because each aligner is made to push your teeth into place.

This discomfort quickly subsides.

Can my child have Invisalign^® ?

Invisalign^® be used for children and teenagers to straighten their teeth without metal braces. The aligners are virtually invisible and removable which means teens can straighten their teeth without anyone knowing and no more embarrassing Instagram photos!

Teens can eat and drink what they want, and brush and floss normally to maintain healthy gums and teeth and there are no more wires or brackets to cause uncomfortable mouth abrasions.

The system works in exactly the same way as standard Invisalign^® except the blue-to-clear colour changing aligners show how long each aligner has been worn. The aligners also have special features to allow for the eruption of canines, premolars and molars in growing teens. They can also be used to help improve jaw positioning.
